Mike Leonard
Mike Leonard had been the head football coach at Franklin College from 2003-2019, and has been in the coaching profession for 40 years. When Coach Leonard took over the reins as the head football coach at Franklin College, his team of players and coaches quickly turned the program into a national contender at the Division III level. He compiled a 129-55 (70.1%) record over 17 seasons, winning 11 conference championships and ending his coaching career as the winningest football coach in Franklin College history.
Coach Leonard was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 2021.
Leonard made coaching stops all over the world as an assistant football coach at DePauw University, the University of Alabama, the University of Tulsa, Hanover College, Holy Cross, Butler University, Wittenberg University, as well as with a professional team in Tokyo, Japan, the Recruit Seagulls. He has also coached football games in Ireland, France, Mexico and China.
Coach Leonard graduated from Hanover College 1984, and earned a master degree from DePauw University in 1986. He graduated from Speedway High School in 1980.
In 2021, Leonard was named to be Franklin Community High School’s first-ever Unified Flag Football coach. He also enjoys kayaking, fly fishing, golf, and learning how to both better play and teach guitar. Mike and his wife Susan reside in Franklin, Indiana, and are proud parents of two children, a son-in-law, and a grandson who was fittingly born during the national anthem of the Super Bowl.
